Economic Analysis Provided for Senator Warren’s Spotlight Forum, May 14, 2025

On May 14, 2025, Senator Elizabeth Warren, ranking member of the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, held the spotlight forum, “Stealing the American Dream: How Trump and Republicans Are Raising Education Costs for Families.” Jonathan Glater, professor of law at University of California’s Berkeley School of Law and director of the Student Loan Law Initiative (SLLI) Berkeley, testified as a witness.

 

SLLI prepared the below economic analysis of the higher education finance landscape for the forum and sent it to Senator Warren. It projects that 1-in-12 adults in the U.S. will be directly and negatively affected by the Trump Administration’s actions in the student loan market.
